What causes resonance disorders?

Resonance disorders arise from an imbalance of sound energy in the nasal and oral cavities. The correct response highlights that these disorders can occur when there is either an excess or a deficiency of nasal (hypernasality or hyponasality) and/or oral sound energy. This imbalance affects how sound is produced and perceived. For instance, hypernasality can occur when there is too much sound energy resonating in the nasal cavity, often due to problems such as cleft palate or other structural issues related to the speech mechanism. Conversely, hyponasality may result from nasal obstruction.

This understanding emphasizes the multidimensional nature of resonance disorders. While structural factors, environmental influences, and articulation errors can play a role in speech and resonance, they do not solely define these disorders.
